A Smoker's Pause
I painted this portrait of a young man, caught in a moment of quiet confidence. I was really drawn to the way his direct gaze and the straw hat gave him such a distinct character. There was something about the casualness of the cigar and the scarf that suggested a story, a brief pause in a busy life. I wanted to capture that sense of youthful introspection and understated swagger.
